Upload a photo to see whether the file still carries AI provenance metadata - C2PA, XMP, and related tags - that Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and TikTok may read. Read-only, browser-only, no server upload. This is not a pixel-level “is this AI art?” classifier.
What an AI image check means here
Searchers often mean two different tools. Pixel classifiers guess whether pixels look synthetic. This page checks embedded file metadata - the same C2PA Content Credentials and XMP AI fields that trigger “AI Info” or “contains AI generated media” on many uploads.
Use it when you want a fast answer before posting: “Does this export still carry upload-time AI markers?”
Check → clean → upload
Typical creator workflow when a label appeared or you exported from an AI-enabled editor.
- Upload JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF to the checker above
- Read the summary - C2PA, XMP, EXIF software, PNG chunks, or none found
- If AI-related metadata appears, open the AI metadata remover
- Download the cleaned file and upload that version to Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, or Facebook
- Still labeled with a clean file? Visual detection or pixel watermarks may apply - see the disclaimer
What this checker looks for
- C2PA - signed content credentials from DALL·E, Firefly, Photoshop AI, and similar exports
- XMP AI tags - tool names, prompts, seeds (common on Midjourney and SD pipelines)
- EXIF software strings - editors that disclose AI-assisted workflows
- PNG text chunks - Stable Diffusion / ComfyUI workflow data
Example: what a check might show
A DALL·E PNG export often reports C2PA Content Credentials even when the image looks ordinary. A Midjourney download may show XMP generation parameters and PNG text chunks while C2PA is absent. A wedding photo edited with Photoshop Generative Fill can carry partial C2PA on an otherwise real capture - enough for Instagram to show AI Info until you clean the master file.
None detected does not mean a platform will never label the post. If metadata is clean but AI Info still appears, read the disclaimer on pixel watermarks and visual classifiers.
How to read the summary
After upload, the checker groups what it found. Use this as a go/no-go before Instagram, TikTok, or client delivery.
- C2PA detected - treat as high priority. Many Meta and Pinterest uploads read Content Credentials first. Clean before posting if you do not want metadata-driven AI Info.
- XMP or PNG AI chunks - common on generator exports (Midjourney, SD, ComfyUI). Often enough for a label even when C2PA is missing.
- EXIF software only - lower risk for camera JPGs, but AI editor names in Software fields can still contribute on some platforms.
- None detected - good sign for file-level triggers, but not a guarantee. Re-check after re-export, WhatsApp forward, or screenshot saves.
AI image checker vs AI image detector
Many “AI detectors” analyze pixels or run cloud classifiers. We do not. This tool only reports metadata your browser can read locally. Clean metadata often fixes metadata-driven labels; it does not remove SynthID-style invisible watermarks or guarantee future platform classifiers will ignore your file.

After the check: remove what you found
When C2PA or XMP AI entries show up, strip them before upload. Same browser engine, batch up to 30 images per session.

Common upload scenarios
- Instagram feed or Story still - check before posting if AI Info appeared on a similar export (see Instagram upload prep )
- TikTok photo mode - C2PA can trigger “contains AI generated media” (see TikTok upload prep )
- Pinterest pins - GenAI metadata on mockups and AI-assisted product shots
- Photoshop Generative Fill - real photos can pick up C2PA and get mislabeled
When to run an AI image check
- Right after export from ChatGPT, DALL·E, Midjourney, Firefly, or Canva AI
- Before your first Instagram, TikTok, or Pinterest upload of the day
- When a post was labeled and you still have the original master file
- After Lightroom, Photoshop, or CapCut saved a new copy - metadata can survive re-export
- Before sending deliverables to clients who forbid visible AI Info on mockups
Formats and privacy
- Formats: JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF
- Size: up to 15 MB per file
- Privacy: checking runs locally - images are not uploaded for analysis
FAQ
What is an AI image check?
Here it means scanning your file’s embedded metadata for AI provenance signals - C2PA, XMP, and related tags - before you upload. It is a read-only browser check, not a pixel-level verdict on whether the picture was AI-generated.
Is this an AI image checker or an AI image detector?
This page is an AI image checker for file metadata. It is not a cloud AI image detector that scores pixels. If C2PA or XMP appears, the file carries upload-time markers many platforms read. No AI metadata does not prove a human took the photo - see the disclaimer .
How do I check if a photo is AI-generated before Instagram?
Upload the file above. If C2PA, XMP AI tags, or generator parameters appear, the export carries provenance metadata typical of AI tools - the usual file-level trigger for AI Info. Strip those fields with the AI metadata remover , then post the cleaned copy.
Does an AI image check upload my photo?
No. Analysis runs in your browser. Your image is not sent to our servers for checking.
Will checking or cleaning change image quality?
Checking is read-only. Cleaning metadata does not change resolution or colors - only hidden header data is removed.
What if Instagram still shows AI Info after a clean check?
When labels are metadata-driven, removing C2PA/XMP before upload usually fixes the trigger. If metadata is clean but a label remains, the platform may use visual detection or pixel watermarks - metadata tools cannot change pixels.
How is this different from the AI metadata checker?
Same engine. This URL is worded for ai image check / AI image checker searches and upload-before results. The AI metadata checker page goes deeper on each metadata type (C2PA, XMP, EXIF, IPTC) and field-level reading.
Can I check a ChatGPT or DALL·E export?
Yes. OpenAI image exports often include C2PA Content Credentials. Upload the PNG or JPG here - if C2PA or XMP appears, clean with the AI metadata remover before attaching to Instagram, Facebook, or email.
Does this work for TikTok photo uploads?
Yes for still images. TikTok can read C2PA on photo-mode uploads. Run the check on the exact file you will upload, then post the cleaned copy if markers appear. Video containers are a separate workflow - see TikTok prep .
Does Instagram vs TikTok read image metadata the same way?
Both can read C2PA and XMP on still-image uploads - the same hidden fields this checker scans. Instagram often surfaces AI Info when Content Credentials or AI-related XMP remain in the file. TikTok photo mode may show contains AI generated media when similar metadata is present. The workflow is the same: check here, clean with the AI metadata remover , then upload the cleaned master. Platform rules change - see Instagram prep and TikTok prep for upload context.
Can I check multiple images?
This page checks one file at a time. For batches, use the AI metadata remover (up to 30 images per session) after spot-checking a sample file here.
